Coronavirus Update

Our latest practice policies, procedures and response to the COVID-19 situation.

Coronavirus update – 27 March 2020

Temporary suspension of clinic operations and the management of emergencies for your safety:

At these unprecedented times, recognising the dangers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic on our community, our top priority is the health and well-being of our patients, families, staff, and community.

As health care professionals, we believe we have a crucial role to play in “flattening the curve” to help limit infections and slow the spread of COVID-19. We are also conscious that the dental environment is a high risk one due to the generation of aerosols from patient’s mouths.

To this end, we have made sure our practice has remained ahead of the curve, predicting and pro-actively acting on scientific evidence and additional safety and protection protocol at each stage, even prior to guidelines releases by the Australian Dental Association (ADA).

In line with the recently released ADA Guidelines on Dental Treatment During the COVID-19 pandemic, we ceased standard practice and restricted our clinical services to absolutely medically necessary emergency care only.

We have, and are contacting patients with non-urgent appointments advising them their elective and even important treatments will be postponed for at least 3 months (likely longer), subject to further advice from the Australian Dental Association (ADA), Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and the Dental Board of Australia (DBA). Our commitment is that we will at least aim to follow these guidelines, if not go beyond their requirements where we are able.

Sadly, but as a necessity to protect the community, after 12 years of continuous services, our practice door is now closed until we are satisfied that opening practice will be in the best interests of our patients and the public, and also in line with national and state guidelines.

Our dental implant procedures are generally considered elective, and hence will not be performed during this time. We look forward to recommencing our services when it is in the best interests of the community.

Organising emergency care

During this time, a practice manager will be attending to your voicemails and emails. They will attend to the remote triaging for the management of true dental emergencies only. If you have an emergency dental concern, please call, text or email us, and we will endeavour to attend to your message at the earliest opportunity. If you require urgent/emergency care (such as acute pain or facial swelling), please contact our practice at info[at] or 08 6380 5899.

Organising future elective care

Enquiries for elective care will be handled for future management. Soon, arrangements will be made to allow limited remote tele-health or video consultations with our dentists. These consultations will be limited. They will allow you to meet or talk to your practitioner remotely, and better plan the likely procedures that you may require. Radiographic and pharmaceutical prescriptions may be provided where appropriate, and preliminary diagnosis/advice will be pending a face to face clinical assessment when we are up and running again. We await the development of new protocols and treatment item numbers being arranged for this purpose.

Extra measures in our clinic for limited emergency procedures, arranged by prior triage:

Patients visiting our practice for a dental emergency will be subjected to the following:

• Temperature screening with non-contact infrared forehead thermometer upon arrival;

• Use of alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR) upon arrival;

• Disclosure of travel history and health symptoms;

• Potential COVID-19 exposure disclosure; and

• 1.5% Hydrogen Peroxide pre-procedural mouth-rinse for 30 seconds, before treatment.

• Treatment provided will be in strict adherence to ADA Guidelines.

• Socially isolated seat distancing in the reception area

• Request to remain in your car until we are ready to see you

• Request to not bring friends or family into the premises with you where feasible

In conclusion

We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine when it is appropriate for us to return to our normal business operations. This period presents us will with new and unprecedented challenges. We have been saddened to cease business operations after working closely together as a supportive work family attending to our patients for over 12 years. But the safety of our patients, staff, families and most importantly the community at large, must be our foremost consideration.

Dear patients and community, please stay safe and healthy. Remember the importance of hand hygiene and social isolation – stay home, stay safe, and look after each other. We can all get through this together and come out a stronger, more united and connected community.
